Clos Galena is one of the most respected wineries in the DOQ Priorat, the prestigious wine region in southern Catalonia. The estate is located in the heart of Priorat, surrounded by steep vineyards on the characteristic llicorella soil: a unique combination of slate and mica that forms the foundation for the great wines of this area.

Priorat: Spain’s most iconic wine region

Along with Rioja, Priorat is the only Spanish region with the highest DOQ/DOCa classification. The vineyards are situated on extreme slopes at altitudes of up to 700 meters. The poor llicorella soil forces the vines to root deeply in search of water and minerals. This gives the wines unprecedented concentration, complexity, and minerality.

The Garnacha and Cariñena (Carignan) grapes are the classics of Priorat. They often come from very old vines over 50 years of age. Clos Galena works with both varieties and also creates impressive blends with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot.

Clos Galena is run with passion and precision by Merche and Chritina Dalmau. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably, with respect for the old vines and the fragile ecology of the Priorat.

In the cellar, Clos Galena employs careful extraction and aging in French oak. The goal: to showcase the power of the Priorat without losing its elegance. The wines are deep in color, rich in black fruit, spices, and minerals, and possess an impressive structure and a long finish.
