Winkler-Hermaden, Vulkanland Steiermark
Winkler-Hermaden is one of the leading wineries in the Vulkanland region of Styria, Austria. On the volcanic soils of the Kapfensteiner Kogel, the grapes grow slowly and aromatically. The result: wines with a unique minerality, freshness, and distinct character, typical of this exceptional terroir.
The estate has been in the hands of the Winkler-Hermaden family for generations and operates entirely organically. The vineyards are situated on the steep slopes of an ancient volcano featuring solidified lava and basalt, which gives the wines their distinctive volcanic grip and minerality.
White wines
The Sauvignon Blancs are a flagship of the estate: the complex Sauvignon Blanc Hochwarth, the mid-range Sauvignon Blanc Kapfenstein, and the classic Sauvignon Blanc. For more body and richness, the Grauburgunder 2015 or the Grauburgunder 2020 are excellent choices. The aromatic Gewürztraminer and the elegant organic Traminer bio complete the white wine selection.
Red wines
For reds, there is the powerful Zweigelt and the elegant Zweigelt Olivin. Fruity, spicy, and typically Austrian.
